THORNTON Grammar School pupil Courtney Rivers-Gallagher has won 12 national medals and trophies over two weekends.
The 15-year-old's first triumphs came in the Federation of English Karate Organisations' (FEKO) National Championships in Nottingham.
She picked up a silver medal in the kata pairs with team-mate Danielle Dunn, the duo then combining with Hannah Chessers to lift gold at sanbon and ippon in the 15-17 years' team kumite events.
Individually, Rivers-Gallagher also picked up silvers in the sanbon kumite and ippon 15-17 years' categories.
The following weekend, Rivers-Gallagher took part in the two-day Amateur Martial Association (AMA) National Championships at Leigh Sports Village.
There she took gold on the Saturday in the 15-17 years' performance kata and on the Sunday in the 15-17 years' ippon.
This backed up her silvers from the previous day in both kata categories – the 15-17 years' open and shito ryu, losing out on gold on each occasion by just 0.1 of a mark.
The teenager, who is sponsored by Pentagon and DFK, also took bronzes in weapons on the Saturday and on Sunday in the 16-years- plus open sanbon to round off her most successful fortnight.
Rivers-Gallagher, who trains twice a week at the United Styles Karate Academy (USKA) in Bury with sensei Peter Allen and is a regular member of the AMA UK National Karate squad, will now take a summer break before resuming intense training in preparation for trips to Romania in September and Poland in October.
