Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway Club were in action at Bury in both the first round of the Northern Fours League and the Junior League.

They held on to third place out of six strong teams in a Northern Fours League meeting held in high winds and rain, and scored in all of their heats in the junior match.

One setback in the Northern Fours came in the first heat when Darren Kent took a tumble and was excluded for being the primary cause of the stoppage.

Northern Fours League result: Bury Comets 70, Stockport 69, Heckmondwike 44, Bury Meteors 40, Astley & Tyldesley 40, Hull 36.

Heckmondwike scorers: Darren Kent 13, Adam Watson 12, Laura Watson 10, Justin Naylor 6, Chris Summersgill 3 (from two mreserve rides).

Heckmondwike's junior scores - Under-tens: Bella Naylor 8, Declan Summersgill 11. Under-13s: Will Naylor 10, Tom Whitwam 13, Ben Summersgill 9. Under-16s: Adam Watson 12. Under-19s: Ryan Summersgill 5. Second Division: Chris Summersgill 8.

On Sunday, Heckmondwike are at home against Newcastle at Firth Park.
