The scoring system in the Bradford Table Tennis League will once again be up for discussion after the outcome of the Division Five title race was finalised.

At present, one point per set is awarded, as well as two points for a win, and in Division Five Baildon B and Hermits I have been jostling for top spot all season.

Hermits have won 23 of their 24 matches and under the old system of just two points for a win and one point for a draw they would have been champions.

But Baildon, who won 22 of their 24 matches, managed to win seven more sets than Hermits and took the title by five points.

So the thorny question of which system is the fairest may well be raised at the end-of-season annual meeting.

Highdale B retained their Division One title by a large margin, having lost just once so far, while Unity D clinched the Division Two championship following their 8-2 success at Laisterdyke A.

Fastbats are Division Three champions with two matches left, and Baildon A have taken the Division Four crown.

The Burton Cup and Tony Theobould Trophy finals will take place at Hermits next Wednesday.

Highdale B meet Dewsbury Sedbergh in the Burton final, while Hermits F play either Hermits B or Baildon A in the Handicap Competition.
