Michael Platt hopes for a treble celebration tomorrow - returning to the Bulls side, marching on towards Wembley and toasting his new three-year deal.

The Bradford full back has featured only once since pulling his hamstring against Catalans in March, with first injury and then Dave Halley's stellar performances keeping him on the sidelines.

But he hopes to be back for the Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round tie versus the same opponents and today revealed he has also put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him at Odsal until 2011.

Platt's current contract is up at the end of Super League XIII so the player, who joined from Castleford 18 months ago, is thrilled at extending his stay.

"When I signed here I knew I was coming to one of the top clubs and that's where all players want to do their stuff," said Platt, who is set to start against the Dragons with James Evans a doubt due to a dead-leg.

"I'm delighted to be staying at Bradford for another three years and I think I've improved while I've been here.

"I've still got a lot to do but the club have shown a lot of faith in me by giving me a deal that long.

"I don't know too many Bradford Bulls who have gone on to higher heights from here and leaving was not something I ever wanted to do, so it's great it's all sorted."

The prospect of reaching Wembley is exciting 24-year-old Platt, who has vivid Challenge Cup memories as a supporter.

He said: "I went to watch St Helens against Bradford with my dad in 1996 and 97. He's a Saints fan and I used to go with him to games but they're the only two times I've been to Wembley.

"Obviously Bradford lost both times but hopefully it'll be third time lucky this year with the Bulls getting there and winning.

"I'd love to play there. I think it is the best stadium in the world and it was one of the goals we set at the start of the year.

"We're only three wins away now but this is a massive game. We know, being the Challenge Cup, we can't afford any slip-ups and Catalans will be tough.

"I feel I can add something to the team though and am looking forward to playing if selected."

It has been a frustrating spell for Platt, whose only appearance in the last nine weeks has been a brief stint off the bench versus Toulouse in the previous round.

That was his first after hamstring trouble but he broke his nose in the game and has been back in reserve grade since, unable to dislodge rookie Halley, who continues to impress in the No1 berth.

"It's never nice as you want to play in every match but it's part and parcel of the game," explained Platt, who had been first-choice full back until injury struck.

"You just have to sit there, bite your tongue, bite your nails, get on with things and then make the most of your chance when you get it.

"I want to get back up to performing well straight away and am really looking forward to playing again."

Bulls boss Steve McNamara said of Platt's new deal: "I am delighted we have been able to keep Michael at the club and very pleased with the progress he has made since he joined us.

"He's an outstanding athlete and is developing into a very good full back. For me, he has all the attributes and if he continues to learn and improve, he can go a long way in the game."

This is good news. Not many see Platt's defensive qualities and we need him back. Halley has done very well at fullback and on attack no one can fault him, He deserves his place in the side still, so have him on the wing which will sort out the Tupou mess. The only way we can now use TT is in the pack. His defensive positioning has been found out last week at Cardiff and in the Wigan playoff match last year. Come on you Bulls!

Glad Macca sees beyond his few poor games early in the season. He is a more complete F/B than Halley for me. I think Halley right wing would see him score many tries for the Bulls and Platts support play from F/B could see a few tries from there also. Good news.

Yeah, I suppose Tupou could be challenging for Platt's titles of Mr Shaky, Mr Lazy and Mr Clueless.

Just been on the RFL website, looking at the "Ask Stuart" section, where the head of referees comments on refereeing decisions.
With regards to Hape's Cardiff try,he openly comes out and states the video referee got it wrong, and a penalty should have been awarded.
I wonder if he would have come out so boldly against any other club.
Seems he still holds the Bradley grudge.

Its sad to see comments like "he makes mistakes" levelled at Platty. Hes pretty sound really and was no better or worse than most others at the seasons start. He has that ability to beat a man and charge through gaps. Something Halley lacks at the moment. I do wish the few doubters would give BOTH these young lads a chance.

No its not sad Haitch, and its the truth, he is a liabitlity and often makes mistakes. Not always knock ons and fumbles, he's often out of position and ambles to retrieve a kicked football, often resulting in him forced to kick it dead.

I couldn't care less if he has the ability to beat the odd man, his bad far out weighs his good in terms of the influence it has on games.

I've given him a chance, a whole seasons worth and he was far from inpressive, he just doesn't have it and now we are stuck with him for another 3 years.

God help us, because who ever is making decisions up at Odsal, they are making some woeful ones right now.

One thing is for sure, and that is I know more about RL and can predict how players will develop and how seasons will pan out better than anybody on this site.

Look at what I predicted at the start of the year and how it is at the moment for starters.

Come on LJ, where's yer spirit. Yes, he is only 24 but also there is significant inprovement in him. Agreed he does make mistakes but hey, who doesn't. This guy has a lot of potential and also a lot to offer the club. Halley will also develop into a good fullback but both have different types of qualities to offer in the position. I think this is a smart move from Maccaa and one that will prove absoutely vital to the Bulls push for honours

I am not one for false optimism, Bully.

Only 24? Most FB's are well on their way to great things at that age if they have anything about them.

Significant improvement? I dont think so, where do you get this stuff from?

Dont get me wrong, Bully. I can accept the odd mistake, but its every frigging game with Michael Platt, and his attitude to retrieving the football is absolute shocking.

He's been garbage for over a years worth of games now and he's offered a new 3 year contract? WTF is going on up there?

As for a smart move, not in the slightest, its just another one of McNamara's stupid calls that is driving us back down the ladder to mid table mediocrity.

His Potential is miniumum and he's a bottom of the league standard player who's got nothing to offer this club except reserve strenghth as for our push for honours, I dont think so.

As for our push for honours, I dont think so.

Not until the old guard and the avergae to crap is well and truly clear of this squad, and that is the majority with a few exceptions, including the coaching and backroom staff.

Call me harsh, critical, what ever you want. Its a real perspective and one that is ringing true all around us at Odsal at this very minute.

In 16 years of watching Northern and Bulls I have
