A new name will be engraved on the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League’s H Broadbent Trophy this season.

Neither Cross Roads and Daisy Hill Methodists nor West Bowling, who meet in the final on Sunday at Mayfield (2.00), have reached the final before.

West Bowling, formerly St Stephen’s Church, have been continuous members of the league since 1957, while Cross Roads and Daisy Hill were founder members of the league in 1896 under the guise of Daisy Hill Men’s Association.

Both sides are having a good season, with West Bowling topping Group C and Cross Roads and Daisy Hill close behind in fourth.

To reach the final, West Bowling defeated Heaton in the first round and Great Horton Meths in the semi-finals.

Cross Roads and Daisy Hill put out Central YMCA in the first round and then beat Group B side Cambing in the last four.

The merged club have Graham Langton and Matthew Baron in their side, who were in their Sir James Roberts Cup winning team in 2001, while West Bowling have the experienced batter Stuart Morrison and bowler Neil Hollington in their line-up.

It should be a close final as both teams also contain a number of up-and-coming young players in their ranks.

The umpires for the match are Mohammed Shaffique and Abuy Sheikh.
