It’s another important match for us this week against Essex.

In an ideal world we would have loved to have got that first victory against Kent but we know in this division that there’s going to be more positive results than draws over the season.

It would be good to get a one in the win column against Essex, but there’s still 15 games to go so we certainly don’t need to panic if it doesn’t come.

Last week’s game against Leeds/Bradford MCCU was a really good workout for the lads.

I said to their coach after the game that I thought it was the best University team I’ve played against. They made it really competitive and were a really good unit. We were all very impressed with them.

In truth it was a disappointing end to the game, because it was boiling up to be a good finish.

I also think that the wicket we played on was the type of pitch that we probably need to play on in order to get a result at Headingley.

We saw against Kent that when the sun came out it really flattened out. Dizzy and Galey are talking to the groundstaff all the time and it will be interesting to see what the wicket is like for Essex.

The one against the students was spicy to say the least.

On a personal note, I feel really good at the moment.

It’s always disappointing to get out but I know myself that I’m playing well. It’s really important to get some time in the middle and hopefully the runs will flow after this.

I was also quite close to beating my career best with the ball. Last year I couldn’t really bowl much in practice or in matches but this time around I’ve got a lot of overs under my belt in pre-season.

I feel in a good rhythm and with the team having one less seam bowler last week it was a chance for me to get some overs in. Fortuanately, I was able to pick up a few wickets.

There hasn’t been any talk of me playing as an all-rounder really. Galey, Dizzy and Martyn pick the team and I’m sure they will have been discussing different options.

It’s going to be really difficult to pick the team this week.

I get frustrated when I can’t bowl, so it’s just nice that the body feels injury-free at the moment. I’m really enjoying my cricket.
