The weather ruined what might have been a thrilling end to Yorkshire’s first-class match with Leeds/Bradford MCCU today.

With all three results possible by the mid-way point of the penultimate session, a heavy shower robbed both teams the chance of victory at Headingley.

When it came, Yorkshire had reached 91-2 in their second-innings as they tried to chase down a victory target of 266.

After being bowled out for 135 in their first-innings on Saturday to concede a deficit of 76 runs, a good bowling performance had brought Yorkshire back into the contest.

They ousted the students for just 189 second time around, with Bradford-born Anthony McGrath picking up 4-37.

Despite losing Joe Root for a duck, the omens looked good for Yorkshire’s maiden first-class win of 2012, with Joe Sayers (41no) and McGrath in fine form.

They added 86 before McGrath was out for 43 to leave the county on 86-2. However, just 12 balls later the weather intervened, to end any chance of a fascinating climax.
