A golden morning for Yorkshire’s bowlers saw them take control of their vital LV= County Championship clash with title rivals Nottinghamshire.

By lunch on day one at Trent Bridge the home side had slumped to 47-6 in 29.2 overs.

The wickets began to tumble in the first over of the day after the Tykes had won the toss and elected to field, Ajmal Shahzad ousting stand-in Notts opener Paul Franks for a duck.

Then, after Shahzad had also dismissed Alex Hales for three, it was the turn of Bradford-born Moin Ashraf to excel.

In his first-ever Championship game, the 18-year-old picked up two wickets during the morning session.

Adam Voges was his first victim, for eight, before the young fast bowler also dismissed the dangerous Samit Patel for a duck.

At this stage the Division One leaders were 18-4, before Oliver Hannon-Dalby struck twice more to trap both Ali Brown for 16 and captain Chris Read without scoring.

The Tykes’ terrific display meant that they had already secured two bowling bonus points.
