YORKSHIRE moved into a commanding position after securing a big first-innings lead in the County Championship contest against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough.

The visitors were bowled out for just 94 on the second morning, conceding a deficit of 188 runs, although stand-in captain Gary Ballance chose not to enforce the follow-on.

With Notts having resumed on 38-2, former Yorkshire batsman Michael Lumb was the first man to fall victim to Ryan Sidebottom as he feathered an edge through to wicketkeeper Andrew Hodd.

Steven Mullaney (25) was then trapped lbw looking to play to the leg-side before Sidebottom made it three wickets in as many overs as Tim Bresnan took a good catch above his head at first slip to dismiss Samit Patel.

Jack Brooks' introduction into the attack continued the procession as Chris Read mistimed a pull from the seamer's fourth delivery of the morning and looped a catch to Alex Lees at cover.

Brooks then accounted for Brett Hutton as he edged to a tumbling Adam Lyth at second slip before Brendan Taylor, who had earlier been dropped on nought by Bresnan, was bowled by Steven Patterson via an inside edge.

Bresnan got in on the act himself as he found the edge of Luke Wood's bat to allow Hodd to take another catch before also dismissing Luke Fletcher to secure a substantial first-innings advantage.

Yorkshire openers Lyth and Lees posted two runs without loss during a single over before the interval.
