YORKSHIRE Diamonds captain Lauren Winfield has urged her side to improve following two opening defeats in the Kia Women’s Super League.

The Diamonds lost to Surrey Stars by six wickets at the Oval in midweek to slip to the foot of the table with three group games to play.

They must win their next match against Southern Vipers at Southampton on Monday to keep their hopes of Finals Day alive.

Yorkshire failed to defend a 135 target under lights at the Oval, with England batsman Tammy Beaumont anchoring the chase for Surrey with 47.

"We have got to perform better than we have,” said York-born Winfield, who still plays occasionally for Stamford Bridge.

“We have got to play some better cricket in this next game of else we are out of this competition. We know that.

"It's disappointing. I thought we did really well in the first half, and Hollie batted really well. We didn't kick on like we would like to have.

"The second innings we let ourselves down, we had too many extras and fielding errors, and you just can't afford to do that in this condensed version of the game.”
