ADIL Rashid is looking to bring a little bit of Adelaide back to Yorkshire as they bid to up their game in the NatWest T20 Blast this summer.

Rashid starred for the Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash either side of Christmas, where he was named as one of the competition’s Most Valuable Players.

The England leg-spinner took 16 wickets from nine matches for a side coached by Jason Gillespie and gained some valuable knowledge he believes can be passed on to the Vikings.

After five Championship matches to start the season, including this week’s draw at Somerset, Yorkshire’s players have a little over a week away from competitive action ahead of next Friday’s Blast opener against Leicestershire at Headingley.

“I learned quite a bit out there,” said the Bradfordian.

“The different grounds, different oppositions and circumstances, and hopefully I can bring that to the Yorkshire set up and adapt appropriately.

“T20 is something, as a team, we haven’t been successful at.We’ve done well in patches, but we haven’t really found our straps. Hopefully this year we can go a long way. We’ve got to perform well and do the basics well.

“I think the way we structure our innings can be better. In the Big Bash, we played really fearless cricket out there. It would be great if we can do that at Yorkshire and really express ourselves – play the shots we want or bowl the variations we want.

“That’s something I improved on in the Big Bash.

“Obviously Dizzy knows how I work, and it was nice to have him there to give me feedback.”

Rashid’s stock grew rapidly during his spell with the South Australians, which ended with them beaten in the semi-finals despite topping the group stage table.

And because of that form, he will be seen as key to the Vikings chances of a fast start this summer before he is expected to head off on England one-day duty ahead of the Sri Lanka series on June 21.

“The Big Bash is a massive thing out there,” said the 28-year-old.

“It’s promoted well, and there’s big crowds – 50,000 to 60,000 and full houses, which adds a great atmosphere.

“Obviously we don’t quite get those numbers here, but it was really exciting. Every game felt like a huge build-up. Being televised as well made it a big experience for me.”

Rashid, who has only taken 21 wickets in 26 T20 matches for Yorkshire since the start of 2013, will be involved at some stage in their trio of warm-up matches against league sides across the county next week.

They face a Yorkshire League North XI at York on Tuesday, a Harrogate CC XI at Harrogate on Wednesday and a Bradford Premier League XI at Pudsey Congs on Thursday. All matches start at 6pm.
