YORKSHIRE remain firmly in the hunt for a first Specsavers County Championship win of the season after taking three wickets in 22 balls against Surrey this afternoon.

Heading into the final session of the match, Surrey are 161-6 after 48 overs, still trailing by 66 with a minimum of 29 overs remaining.

They had been on course to save the match at 138-2 in the 35th over. Kumar Sangakkara and Steven Davies, who made 61 and 52 respectively, shared 104 for the third wicket to recover from 34-2 this morning.

A total of 19 overs have been lost today due to weather, leaving Yorkshire with a minimum of 77 to play with.

Sangakkara and Davies, who had shared 122 in the first innings, were two of the three quick wickets to fall as Surrey slipped into trouble.

Joe Root, captaining Yorkshire with Andrew Gale off the field with an injured knee, struck twice in three overs to add to a Jack Brooks wicket.

Root had Sangakkara caught at cover in the 35th over before Jason Roy was caught at mid-wicket off Brooks in the next.

And when Davies was lbw to Root in the 39th, Surrey were still 76 behind with a little over 38 overs left in the day.

Root and Brooks bowled five successive maidens between them before the latter picked up his third wicket of the day, James Burke falling lbw for a duck in the 44th over as the score slipped to 152-6.
