YORKSHIRE'S match against Nottinghamshire seemed to be drifting towards a draw at tea on the final afternoon of the County Championship match at Trent Bridge.

Originally needing 320 to win in 53 overs, Yorkshire were 64-1 off 18 overs when the players came in for the game’s final interval, with Alex Lees on 35 not out and Gary Ballance unbeaten on 24.

Earlier in the afternoon’s play, Nottinghamshire had been bowled out for 348. Resuming after lunch on 299-8, the hosts lost Jackson Bird having made 23 before being lbw to Steve Patterson.

However, Chris Read completed a fine hundred off 178 balls with 14 fours and three sixes. The Nottinghamshire skipper was the last man out, caught on the deep square leg boundary by Adil Rashid off Patterson for 101 to leave the seamer with fine figures of 4-57. Jack Brooks finished with 3-69 and David Willey 2-68.

That left Yorkshire needing to score at 6.03 runs per over to win the game but they lost Adam Lyth in the first over of their second innings when he was caught down the leg side by Read off Jake Ball for four.

However, Lees and Ballance ensured that Yorkshire suffered no more setbacks in the session.
