Yorkshire’s bowlers dominated the afternoon’s play their Specsavers County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire, taking five wickets to reduce the home side to 238-8 at tea.

The tempo of the session could hardly have been in sharper contrast to the morning’s cricket, but the tight lines found by Andrew Gale’s attack stood them in excellent stead as two batsmen edged catches and two others were leg before wicket.

The first to go was Riki Wessels on 12, when his rather loose drive to Liam Plunkett snicked a catch to Joe Root at second slip.

Michael Lumb and Samit Patel then added 32 for the fifth wicket before Patel was leg before on the front foot to Adil Rashid for 16, and Lumb followed, one run short of what would have been a good 50, when he was beaten by a ball from Jack Brooks which swung in and trapped him on the crease.

Brooks then had Chris Read caught by Jonny Bairstow for five and Jake Ball top-edged Rashid to Brooks at deep backward square leg, when he had made seven.

Brooks, whose first two overs had gone for 20, now has figures of 4-74 from 16 overs.
