YORKSHIRE'S bid for a season-opening Specsavers County Championship win over Hampshire was held up by James Vince and Sean Ervine this morning.

Vince advanced from 76 overnight to 119 during the third morning at Headingley as the visitors recovered from 141-5 to reach lunch at 237-6 from 82 overs.

Captain Vince and Ervine shared 75 for the sixth wicket before the former batsman was trapped lbw by a Steve Patterson in-swinger as he offered no shot, leaving the score at 203-6.

Ervine battled hard against a hostile Liam Plunkett, who struck him on the left wrist or hand, causing a lengthy stoppage.

The former Zimbabwe international will resume this afternoon on 49 as Hampshire reply to the hosts' 593-9 declared.
