YORKSHIRE are relaxed over the outcome of Geoffrey Boycott's bid to return to the club's board.

The former England and White Rose opener will find out whether he has been successful or not at this morning's annual general meeting at Headingley, starting at 10am.

Boycott believes Yorkshire are in a worrying state off the field due largely to their £22million debt, a claim which chairman Steve Denison rejects.

Denison said: "To be fair to Geoffrey, he doesn't see things from the inside. He hasn't got all the facts available to him."

Boycott also believes the members should be better looked after.

He wants to ensure their facilities are moved from the East Stand to behind the bowler's arm when the redevelopment of the New Rugby Stand is complete in time for a blockbuster summer in 2019, which includes the Ashes and the one-day World Cup.

"In one sense it doesn't matter," said Denison, of Boycott's bid for a board position.

"Our priorities are remaining a members' club, which we will do as long as I'm involved – and more than likely a long time beyond that.

"We want to focus on the members and what they get from the club on and off the field and paying down the debt.

"That's actually what Geoffrey's talking about as well, so on the face of it, we're all on the same page.

"The difference is, what skills and attributes do we need amongst our board members to give ourselves the best chance of delivering that?

"What we've decided we need, Geoffrey just doesn't tick enough of those boxes.

"We don't doubt that he is the most passionate supporter of Yorkshire CCC – it's completely in his blood.

"We want him to carry on playing to his strengths, which are publicising the club and driving people into it. It's just that we don't want him occupying one of those board spaces."

Should Boycott not be elected back onto the Yorkshire board today, it would be no surprise if he opted against taking up the club's offer of being their first official global ambassador.

"I'm not concerned – but I haven't really thought about it too much, if I'm honest," said Denison.

"That is totally within his gift, however, and predicting how Geoffrey will react is a bit of a mug's game.

"I really hope that he doesn't because we want Geoffrey Boycott to be part of Yorkshire CCC for as long as he wants to be part of it. He would be a great asset for us."
