YORKSHIRE seamer Ryan Sidebottom does not plan to reignite his limited overs career despite preparing to take part in the inaugural Masters Champions League T20 tournament.

The former England bowler is set to jet out to the UAE later this month as part of the Libra Legends franchise having been snapped up in December’s auction of retired internationals for $32,000.

And though the tournament, which gets under way on January 28, will see the left-armer play in the shortest form of the game for the first time since 2014, he is not intending on featuring in white ball cricket for Yorkshire as he aims to contribute towards a third straight County Championship title.

“It all happened very fast, actually. Michael Vaughan rang me one night at 11pm and said ‘have you signed up for this Masters Champions League?’

“I said ‘no’ and he told me he had a friend who would sort it out in the morning. The next thing I knew the boys were saying ‘oh you’ve been bid for, you’ve been bid for’.

“It’s just a couple of weeks, and it will be nice to get out of the East Stand nets and get some volume in the legs bowling wise. I’ll come back for a couple of weeks and then be back out there on pre-season.

“It’s going to be very light on the body. I’ve already spoken to Graeme Swann and said ‘don’t you dare play me in every game. Look after me.’”

On whether he could be about to give new one-day captain Alex Lees some selection headaches, he added: “He did start laughing at me and said ‘if you do alright, I might give you a couple of games’. It was very much tongue in cheek.

“My days of one-day and Twenty20 cricket are finished.

“You’ve seen the way I’ve bowled the last three or four years. I’ve not lost my pace, and not playing all forms has given me time to recover.

“We spoke about it three or four years ago, myself, Martyn (Moxon) and Dizzy (Jason Gillespie), and we worked out that if I can play 10 to 12 four-day games and win two or three of those by contributing heavily, that’s success.”
