Glenn Maxwell hopes his maiden Yorkshire century can spark a run glut for him to further boost their Royal London one-day Cup hopes after today’s thumping win over Worcestershire at New Road.

The Australian World Cup winner smashed 111 off 76 balls to fire the Vikings to a mammoth 345-6, their joint third-highest List A score.

Maxwell was backed up by half-centuries for skipper for the day Alex Lees and Jack Leaning before Steve Patterson claimed 5-24 as the Rapids were bowled out for 212 to secure a 133-run win success.

This was his 20th innings in all competitions since arriving at Headingley in May, and he had only scored two fifties previously, including 55 in Wednesday’s defeat to Surrey at the Oval.

"It's good to finally get the three figures for Yorkshire,” said the 26-year-old.

“I feel like I've been playing really well over the last two months and haven't really put it all together. It was nice to get beyond that landmark, and hopefully it opens the floodgates a little bit.

"It's been very frustrating, especially when you feel like you've been hitting the ball so well.

"I didn't really strike the ball as I'd like to, but it was better. It was more of a controlled innings. There's still plenty of improvement I want to do, and hopefully I can start that in the coming games.”

Yorkshire’s second Group A win from four sets them up nicely at the halfway stage of the campaign, with their next match up at Durham on Sunday.

Maxwell was spot on when he said “we were clinical in all three facets of the game”.

He shared 61 for the second wicket with Lees and 105 for the third with Gary Ballance before Leaning and Adil Rashid added 102 inside eleven overs for the sixth wicket at the death.

Worcester’s chase never threatened. There were two run outs as the score slipped to 60-3 inside 17 overs, while Patterson took the last four in 15 balls to wrap up the win.

Andrew Gale, meanwhile, will be out for a week with a right wrist injury.
