AS A squad, we are desperate to right the wrongs of Twenty20 over the next few weeks in the Royal London Cup.

Over 50 overs, a team's overall skill comes through a little bit more and hopefully we can string some performances together and do well in that competition, which we should really be doing in all three. We've obviously got a good team but we just played poorly in the T20.

We've got Glenn Maxwell to call upon. He couldn't get in the Championship team but he's an Australian international and a World Cup winner in this format.

Rich Pyrah, who has played one-day cricket for ten to 15 years now, should also come in. We've got more than enough in the squad to compete in every game.

We've played some decent County Championship cricket over the past month to six weeks to win five games on the bounce and we are getting the job done at the minute.

There's a lot of hard work still to do, though, and some big games coming up. Looking ahead, we've got Durham at Scarborough next up and they are a really dangerous team.

We've been fortunate to have Jonny Bairstow in unbelievable form, hitting hundred after hundred in the Championship, and he thoroughly deserves his call-up to the England side for this week's Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

Unfortunately, it has come at the expense of Gary Ballance – but I'm sure he will come back strong.

There's obviously a lot of hype and scrutiny around the Ashes series at moment, and there were some questions surrounding Adam Lyth's place at the top of the order after a couple of low-scoring Tests.

No matter who you are and no matter what industry, there are going to be some teething problems until you find your feet. But I'm confident that he'll come good – fingers crossed, this week.

You just have to look at Gary. He was third fastest to 1,000 runs and, after a couple of bad Tests, they're straight into him. That's the biggest thing to put up with and hopefully Lythy will overcome that.

Everybody goes through a period where they aren't playing as well as they would like – but he got a hundred two Tests ago against New Zealand at Headingley, so all he needs to do is get through that new ball and he'll be fine.
