YORKSHIRE lost early wickets on the first morning of their County Championship clash with Worcestershire as they looked to stretch their lead at the top of the Division One table.

The start of play was delayed by an hour due to heavy morning rain before Andrew Gale won the toss and opted to make first use of the Scarborough wicket.

When play did eventually get under way, Will Rhodes fell in just the fourth over as he drove at a wide delivery from Joe Leach and edged to Ross Whiteley at first slip.

Opening partner Alex Lees was then dismissed in almost identical fashion four overs later as Whiteley claimed his second catch of the morning off Leach.

That left the home side on 33-2, but Gale and Jack Leaning were able to rebuild before the latter batsman was adjudged lbw for 17 as Leach claimed his third wicket of the morning.

In-form Jonny Bairstow joined Gale to see defending champions Yorkshire through to the lunch break on 85-3.
