AARON Finch recently criticised his big mate Glenn Maxwell for his lack of kitchen skills when they were housemates, but now the pair are aiming to cook up a storm for Yorkshire in Twenty20 cricket.

The Australian World Cup-winners lived together in Melbourne as recently as late last year, with Finch joking: “One thing I never saw him do was cook. I was basically the mother of the household.”

Although they play their international cricket together and are state team-mates with Victoria, Finch plays his domestic Twenty20 for Melbourne Renegades and Maxwell for Melbourne Stars.

But they have both signed on at Headingley as overseas players for the NatWest T20 Blast competition.

While Maxwell has arrived at Yorkshire and is set to debut in tonight’s North Division clash with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, Finch is currently completing his recovery from a torn hamstring suffered last month at the IPL.

“I love playing with Finchy. He is a top player,” said batting all-rounder Maxwell, who took advice from the opener before agreeing to join Yorkshire.

“We haven’t played T20 cricket with each other for a while. It is going to be fun, and we will try and make it work for the Yorkshire fans.

“It’s been a long time between drinks with Yorkshire and Finals Day, and hopefully myself and Finchy can contribute to getting them there.

“I’ve had a number of chats with him, and he speaks highly of the club and the overall set-up.

“The professionalism of the county really got me bought in and the way Yorkshire want to play their cricket. They play with a bit swagger and are aggressive. I guess that’s come from Jason Gillespie.”

Maxwell has played three seasons of English Twenty20 for Hampshire and Surrey, with his teams reaching Finals Day on every occasion, including 2012 when Hampshire beat Yorkshire.

The 26-year-old has only played in one of those due to availability, for Surrey against Northamptonshire in 2013, and he added: “It’s an amazing day to be involved in.

“Having had chats with Dizzy and some of the boys, they are conscious of really improving in this area.

“That’s one of the main reasons why I’m here, to enhance and strengthen their case against the better teams in the competition.
