JONNY Bairstow knows just what it is like to make your Test debut at Lord's – and he expects Yorkshire team-mate Adam Lyth to handle the nerves and flourish against New Zealand tomorrow.

White Rose opener Lyth will partner Alastair Cook against the new ball in the first of two Test matches against a resurgent New Zealand side which includes his county colleague Kane Williamson.

Lyth toured the Caribbean recently without playing in any of the three Tests but he has now got his chance on the back of Jonathan Trott's retirement.

The 27-year-old batsman scored over 1,400 LV= County Championship runs last season and has scored a hundred and a fifty in his only two appearances for Yorkshire this year.

The left-hander hit 113 and 46 not out in the champion county win over the MCC in Abu Dhabi in March, before returning from the West Indies to post 53 and 23 in last week's Championship victory over Hampshire at Headingley.

Bairstow has played four of his 14 Tests at Lord's, including a debut against the West Indies in May 2012.

He has played in an Ashes clash at the venue, in July 2013, and his highest Test score of 95 also came against world number one side South Africa there during his debut summer.

Bairstow said: "There are lots of different things about walking out at Lord's. It's a full house, so there will be nerves around, but Lythy will take it on the chin.

"He's ready and raring to go and I'm sure he will relish that environment. He's scored thousands of runs now and he deserves his chance.

"It's going to be a fantastic week for him, his family and the people he's played with throughout his career. We wish him all the best and I'm sure he will do well."
