Yorkshire were in the hunt for an LV= County Championship win against Sussex at Scarborough at tea on day three, with Kane Williamson unbeaten on 185.
The White Rose side, in reply to 368, advanced their first innings to 459-7 in the 116th over, with tea taken early due to a brief rain shower.
Williamson and Tim Bresnan, who made 61, shared 157 in 41 overs for the seventh wicket as Yorkshire took their lead to 91.
Williamson had Steve Patterson for company on five not out.
