Yorkshire’s eagerly anticipated NatWest T20 Blast clash with Lancashire at a sold out Headingley was washed out without a ball bowled tonight.

A 16,200 capacity crowd was given the bad news at 7.25pm after persistent early evening rain, and it is yet another disappointment for the county, who have had three washed out one-day internationals in the last five years.

Yorkshire will not take an immediate financial hit because their policy for such scenarios is not to offer monetary refunds.

Instead, all spectators are entitled to a ticket exchange for a day of Yorkshire cricket in the future, including next year’s Roses T20 fixture. And that is where the White Rose county could be left feeling the pinch.

“There’s no winner in this scenario. It’s just desperately disappointing because it’s the one night when you want it to at least be dry,” said director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

“From the table point of view, it’s not a disaster. But from a spectacle and a financial point of view, it kind of is a disaster. It’s such a disappointment. The fact that it sold out quite a while ago shows how much interest the public had in the game.

“It’s just the occasion with everyone looking forward to it. With the game as it was at Old Trafford, and we were due for a fantastic night here with a full house, it was going to be great.

“Financially, it’s a big money-spinner. It’s a significant night for the budget, so it’s a big hit.”

As Moxon said, from a cricketing point of view, this was no disaster for Yorkshire, who continue their bid for a quarter-final place against an in-form Nottinghamshire side at Trent Bridge tomorrow.

This was their second washout of the campaign, and the point takes them to eight from six fixtures. They have games in hand on all of the other nine teams in the group, and they have eight left to play.

“We’ve still got eight games yet, and if we win our games in hand, we’re top of the league. That’s our target,” added Moxon.

“We are really pleased with the way we’ve bounced back after that first defeat against Northants.

“We won the Derby game quite comfortably, then Lancashire was an outstanding match generally. We were also really pleased with our performance at Northants. We thought that was a really good all-round performance.

“The pleasing thing was that we didn’t rely on Aaron Finch to get all the runs for us. We still got 180 with him only getting five off 13 balls or something like that.”

Yorkshire have named an unchanged 14-man squad for tomorrow's fixture (2.30pm).
