A maiden first-class century from Jonathan Bairstow has been the highlight so far on day two of Yorkshire’s LV=County Championship match against Nottinghamshire.
At lunch he is unbeaten on 101 – with the Tykes on 388 for eight.
Bairstow’s delight was obvious to see when he passed the milestone, but there was no such luck for Joe Root.
He resumed on 89 not out, with Yorkshire on 291 for three, but became the first of five wickets to fall in the morning session when he was ousted by Paul Franks for 95.
Gerard Brophy, for nought, Bradford-born Adil Rashid, for four, and Rich Pyrah, for nine, then all came and went quickly, until Ajmal Shahzad provided some much-needed resistance to add 50 runs for the seventh wicket with Bairstow.
He fell in the penultimate over before lunch for 18 though, to bring Ryan Sidebottom to the crease.
At the interval he is unbeaten on five.
