Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan admitted that he was “absolutely ecstatic” at being drafted into the England squad ahead of tomorrow's one-day international against Scotland at the Grange in Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old has been recalled because of injury problems to Chris Tremlett and former Tykes bowler Ryan Sidebottom.

“I am absolutely ecstatic,” confirmed the Pontefract star. “It’s just great to be involved and to know that I am in the minds of the selectors.”

Bresnan last played for England in the summer of 2006, featuring in four 50-over games and a Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka.

He has taken 40 Championship wickets this season – and has also scored 442 runs at an average of 36.83. He claimed 18 wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy.

“I have travelled up to Scotland on the seat of my pants,” he said. “It has been a really good season for me, despite the fact Yorkshire have not been in great form.”

Bresnan was expecting to find out what his England commitments will be tomorrow afternoon.

There is a Twenty20 international against South Africa at the Riverside on Wednesday, while the one-day series begins at Headingley on Friday.
