It will cost clubs more to play in the Towergate Halifax Cricket League this season.
After two years of losses, the league unanimously passed new club subscriptions at an extraordinary league meeting last night at Pellon Social Club.
Annual fees for clubs with two teams have risen from £75 to £90, with an additional £30 for a Sunday team (or £35 if they are from outside the league).
Treasurer Bob Airey said: “Clubs with three teams will therefore pay £120, and we have also transferred £500 from our reserve fund, so we should break even this season given normal monies from our cup finals.
“We have had at least three executive meetings over our budget, and with these increases we are forecast to make a profit of £40.
“We have had to pay out money for insuring our officers and umpires in case of litigation, which has cost £400. We have also had to get our trophies insured.”
League president David Normanton said: “Other leagues are far more expensive than us.”
It was pointed out, however, that all of the subscriptions do not go to the league, £34 for two teams going to the Yorkshire Cricket Board or £46 if a club had three teams.
Normanton added: “We have isolated fees for junior teams. The £20 per team goes straight to the Halifax Junior Cricket League, who lost £2,000 last year.”
