Leaders Allerton get back in swing

DIVISION TWO leaders Allerton returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they crushed Shelf by 89 runs in the Bradford Evening League.

Allerton, beaten by third-placed Crossflatts last week, made 211 for seven thanks to Jonathan Waddington (51no) and Dale Fawcett (50no).

Steve Priestley returned impressive figures of three for 20 in the face of such an onslaught but his side could only reply with 122 for four.

Allerton’s advantage at the summit is now three points after closest rivals Bingley Congs and Crossflatts both lost.

Shipley Providence were all out for 146 against Congs, with Basharat Mehmood (42) following up a solid start from openers Junaid Ahmed (26) and Kashif Ashraf (35).

Jake Best took three wickets and then scored 51 not out in Bingley’s reply but he lacked much support and his side reply ended just short on 137 for six.

Crossflatts (116-9) were the victims as bottom side Cambing (127-4) secured only their second win of the season. M Sajjad was the hero with 41 and four for seven, which included a hat-trick.

One other result saw John Breare (115-3) win narrowly at Bolton Villas (108-6).

The top match in DIVISION ONE went the way of leaders Haworth Road as they won by four wickets with one ball in hand against Denholme, who slipped a place to fourth.

Only Gareth Marshall (35) and Robert Wear (25) could make any inroads against some impressive bowling and fielding as Denholme were restricted to 97 for seven.

Marshall picked up three wickets to keep the game in the balance but Road eventually edged past their target.

Andrew Heaton (35no) and Andy Pinfield (32) helped bottom side Sandy Lane to a modest 103 for four but even skipper Darren Wilson’s 36 not out could not steer Baildon Meths home as their reply ended on 98 for nine.

Taurus Sports beat Indian Panthers to climb to third place, three points behind pace-setters Haworth Road.

But no result was phoned in from either this match or Thornton v Windhill. All clubs are reminded to phone their results in and send their match reports in on time.
