Dave Maloney had a day to remember for Shelf but could not prevent defeat to local rivals Clayton in Division Three of the Halifax League.
Clayton batted first and Maloney reduced them to 76 for six but Paul Ascough then played a superb captain’s innings.
He lashed 113 off 66 balls to steer Clayton to 264 for eight, with Maloney bagging all the wickets to fall.
Shelf lost early wickets in reply and were eventually bowled out for 146, Steve Priestley top-scoring with 35.
Shelf’s second team also lost, making 246 against Bradshaw but losing by eight wickets.
