DIVISION ONE leaders Girlington took full advantage of title rivals Apperley Bridge’s free date in the Bradford Central League.

They extended their lead at the top to eight points with a 67-run defeat of visitors Salem Athletic, who could muster only 122 in response to the pace-setters’ 189.

Shoaib Iqbal’s 45 was the key batting effort as Girlington posted what proved a more than adequate total.

Third-placed Allerton kept in the hunt with a crushing 158-run home win over Norwood Green.

Dale Fawcett (54), Jonathon Waddington (52) and Kamran Raza (43) made significant contributions in Allerton’s total of 255.

Green were then dismissed for just 97 in reply as Ian Robson picked up four for 15.

In-form Thornbury duo Haleem Abdul and skipper Kaleem Afzal were at it again on their visit to Great Horton Church.

Abdul struck 64 to lift the visitors to 250 and then returned three for six with the ball, with Afzal’s five for 23 also helping skittle out the home side for just 62 in response.

It’s as you were at the top of DIVISION TWO after both leaders Thornbury and second-placed Salem Athletic picked up maximum points.

Thornbury notched up 255 for eight (Qamar Zahid 74, Mohammed Mukodas 73, Imran Khan 6-76) to defeat visitors Great Horton Church (156) by 99 runs.

Sher Alam Khan (5-23) was once again amongst the wickets for the home side.

Shahid Iqbal made an unbeaten 56 as Salem Athletic cruised to a seven-wicket win over visitors Girlington, who had earlier been dismissed for 141 (Rashid Mahmood 58) as Hisan Ahmed bagged five for 31.

The final fixture saw visitors Allerton (176) prove too strong for Norwood Green (80).

Irfan Kazi had a good all-round day for Allerton, hitting 41 with the bat and then returning six for 46 with the ball in a 96-run success.
