Leaders Road toppled by Oakworth

Bat dominated ball as 18 centuries were scored in five divisions during the latest round of Craven & District League matches that saw the leaders in the top two sections beaten.

Haworth Road were knocked off top spot in DIVISION ONE as they lost by 28 runs at title rivals Oakworth in a rare low-scoring match.

Oakworth were dismissed for just 125 as Michael Scarborough top-scored with 44 against Mansha Khan (5-38) and Shami Ali (4-29).

But Road slumped to 71 for seven in reply and although R Mushtaq offered some resistance with 33, his side were eventually all out for 97 as youngster Richard Linden (4-15) and Mark Beckett (4-34) did the damage.

Cullingworth took full advantage of Road’s slip as they destroyed Haworth on their own patch by 200 runs to move top of the table.

The visitors blasted 274 for the second wicket courtesy of Gareth Marshall (146no) and Steve Welch (106) on their way to 283 for three.

Haworth were then 83 all out – which included 43 from Ben England – as Dia Moseley, Dave Robinson and Dave Hall claimed three wickets apiece.

Fourth-placed Embsay hosted Bradley and lost to the South Craveners for the first time in many years as they moved level on points.

James Heseltine (4-42) was the pick of Bradley’s bowlers and his team passed their opponents’ total of 167 for the loss of eight wickets thanks to an unbeaten 41 by Neil Robinson.

Elsewhere, Ryan Brooksbank (51no) helped Crossflatts to a four-wicket home win over Glusburn, while Thornton (Jack Laycock 63no, Rob Foster 65no) climbed out of the bottom two after seeing off visitors Sandy Lane by 33 runs.

Cowling won the battle of the bottom two as the moved above new basement side Cononley thanks to an eight-wicket win that featured top efforts from Mike Dudley (103no) and Steve Richardson (5-38 and 96no).

DIVISION TWO leaders Bingley Congs travelled to third-placed Pendle Forest and lost by two wickets as the hosts edged home with three balls to spare.

Long Lee took the opportunity to move within two points of Congs as they saw off Wilsden by three wickets thanks to Matt Taylor’s 91 not out.

Ingrow won by three wickets at Skipton CI, for whom Albert Brennan struck 50 before having to leave the game with a suspected broken foot.

DIVISION THREE leaders Haworth WE smashed Cowling 2nd for 360 for four (Andy Parker 137) in a 187-run win, while second-placed Riddlesden rattled up 210 against visitors Haworth Road 2nd in a 41-run success, R Jain scoring 49 before bagging six for 56.
