Sladen keeps Shipley in touch

Scott Sladen’s half-century guided Shipley Providence to victory over neighbours Crompark as they reached the halfway point of the Dales Council League season ten points behind DIVISION A leaders Rodley.

A knock of 52 by Sladen ensured a three-wicket success, despite the best efforts of Crompark bowler Khuram Rashid (5-54).

Rashid Khan powered to 164 as New Wortley posted 304 but Hepworth & Idle held out for a losing draw at 210 for eight.

Gavin Atkinson contributed 74 to an opening partnership of 92 with Jonny Baines in Baildon’s 295 for seven, Jeremy Softley adding an entertaining 77. Adel hung on for a losing draw at 205 for eight.

Halifax Direct logged a welcome win over Hawksworth as Farhan Khan (80) and Naseem Khan (55) contributed to their 220 for nine, before Asghar Ali tore into the opposition with six for 54.

Leeds Sikh had a four-wicket victory over Pudsey Congs in a low-scoring match.

Drighlington poured more misery on Hepworth & Idle in DIVISION B after scoring 226 for nine (Paul Medley 5-50). Hepworth could only manage 114 as Tyson Illingworth bagged eight for 41.

Shipley Providence were restricted to 137 for nine by Esholt, who won by seven wickets thanks to Matt Burnham’s 61.

It was a poor weekend for Shipley, who also lost on Sunday to a Baildon B side who scored 219 for nine.

Stuart Jolly led the way for Baildon with 96, backed up by Andy Morley (57), before Matthew Bailey’s five for 32 helped dismiss Providence for 150.

Baildon had scored 200 on Saturday but Farsley edged home by two wickets thanks to Ben Tempest’s 69.

Whitehall recorded a welcome six-wicket win over Cookridge in DIVISION C, with Simon Mace (5-40), Aidan Dunn (59no) and Richard Francis (61) the key men.

Wibsey Park Chapel could muster only 85 and lost by four wickets to Pudsey Congs, while Undercliffe beat St Lawrence by 25 runs.

Baildon C were narrow seven-run winners against Crompark B, having beating leaders Meanwood the previous week by two runs, and now lie third in the table.
