Haworth pushed to limit by Meths

DIVISION ONE leaders Haworth Road were given a mighty scare by Baildon Meths before clinching victory in a marvellous Bradford Evening League game.

Will Burgess (43), Awais Ejaz (45no) and Nadeem Mohammed (52no) were all in the runs as unbeaten Haworth Road compiled 149 for two.

Opening batsman Steve Mitchell (37) then gave hosts Meths a good start but the run-out dismissal of Darren Bailey (28) slowed them down and the reply eventually finished on 142 for seven.

Denholme kept up the pressure at the top after another tight game as they chased down Thornton’s 123 for six, which included an unbeaten half-century by Ian Carradice.

After losing a wicket in their first over, Gareth Marshall (30) led a partial Denholme recovery but at 77 for five they still looked in danger of defeat.

But Sam Wilkinson (26no) and Ben Burkhill (27no) kept their nerve to keep their side just two points adrift of Haworth Road.

Dave Pearce stared with bat and ball for Windhill, top-scoring on 36 in this side’s 145 for eight before taking four for 26 as opponents Indian Panthers were toppled for 59.

Another all-round star was B Ijaz as he hit a half-century and then took three wickets as Taurus Sports secured a 47-run win over bottom side Sandy Lane.

Allerton and Bingley Congs continued their promotion push with DIVISION TWO wins at John Breare and Bolton Villas respectively.

Chris Brown (49) and Junaid Bashir (50no) guided Allerton to 140 for seven, with Breare managing only 102 for eight in response.

Simon Bailey hit a fine 53 in Bingley’s 146 for six and although an opening stand of 77 between Daniel Gaunt (48) and Adam Wisirat (40) left Villas in a good position, a steady procession of wickets stemmed their momentum and they finished on 128 for six.

Cambing logged a first win of the season as they bowled out Shelf for 80 before knocking off the runs for the loss of three wickets.

The remaining match saw a seven-wicket win for Shipley Providence, who surpassed Crossflatts’ total of 123 for three.
