Shelf’s first and second teams had contrasting fortunes in weekend league and cup matches, with the senior side losing twice but the reserves winning both matches.

A Halifax League Division Three fixture saw Stainland amass a respectable 220 for seven (Dave Maloney 3-74) before Shelf collapsed to 141 all out from 100 for two.

Shelf 2nd rattled up 255 for five against neighbours Low Moor thanks to talented junior Jack Hartley (88) and Leigh Butterfield (67).

Gavin Watmough’s four wickets then helped dismiss Moor for 163.

Sunday saw the first team lose their Parish Cup second-round tie to Division One leaders Copley, who made 230 for eight.

Shelf were then all out for 195, despite half-centuries from Alex O’Keefe (51) and Jonny Marshall (50).

But Shiv Hadymani (110) and Butterfield (66) ensured Shelf 2nd won their Crossley Shield tie at a canter, piling up 310 before bowling out Mytholmroyd for 130.
