Shipley Providence’s bid to win the A Division title in the Dales Council League fell at the last hurdle at home to Rodley.
Needing a win and Leeds Sikh YMCA to slip up, Shipley were bowled out for 76 chasing 124 for victory.
The defeat turned out irrelevant though as new champions Leeds Sikh YMCA raced to a seven-wicket victory over Adel to secure their first league title.
Hawksworth survived after defeating Farnley Hill by five wickets after New Farnley’s match at Crompark was called off due to an unfit pitch.
Farsley’s stay in the top flight lasted one season after being relegated despite beating Baildon, who they bowled out for 153. Rob Smalldon and David Kenyon both hit 56 as they romped to a seven-wicket victory. Mount ensured their survival with a narrow six-run win over Pudsey Congs, who were dismissed for 144.
Halifax Direct were crowned champions of the B Division as the title race went down to the wire; Leeds Sikh YMCA B were bowled out for 76, Asghar Ali taking five for three before Farhan Khan (38no) led Halifax Direct back to the A Division.
Runners-up are New Wortley who bowled out basement side New Farnley B’ out for 31 to secure a 93-run win. Hepworth & Idle finished third after Craig Green took seven for 32 to shoot out Pudsey St Lawrence for 102 and seeing the batsmen storm to a seven-wicket win.
Baildon B retained the Second XI championship after beating Old Modernians with Imran Malik (5-14) and MT Khan (64) their star performers. Esholt beat Meanwood by three wickets to send the north Leeds side into the C Division and Shipley Providence B lost by eight runs to Rodley B.
Hepworth & Idle B bowled out Pudsey St Lawrence B for 35 to secure an eight-wicket win and ensure they were unbeaten in 2008.
Drighlington are runners-up after Ryan Woods took five for 15 in their seven-wicket defeat of Crompark B. Wibsey Park Chapel ended up in fourth place after losing to Hyde Park for whom Jhangir Gulzar took six for 11, including an hat-trick. Baildon’s Danny Bailey capped off a decent season with 89 in their win over bottom side Cookridge.
