Leeds Sikh climb to the top

Leeds Sikh YMCA leapfrogged Shipley Providence at the top of the Dales Council League's A Division after disposing of Farsley by 136 runs.

Veteran opener Gurdeep Ryatt scored an unbeaten 106, and was ably supported by skipper Raghu Nath (61) as they posted 270 for three declared.

Harcharan Seehra then continued his fantastic season with five for 25 as Farsley succombed for 134, Barry Brooks (58) being the main barrier.

Shipley Providence could only manage a winning draw as Chris Hawksworth’s 53 helped them to 214 for eight, but Adel and Joe Pratt (81 not out) proved extremely stubborn as they closed on 162 for eight.

Baildon’s M T Khan took six for nine as Mount collapsed to 44 all out, a target Baildon reached for the loss of three wickets, while Crompark were six-wicket victors against Farnley Hill after Dave Robinson took five for 24 to dismiss their opponents for 91.

Rodley beat New Farnley by two wickets after bowling them out for 84, and Hawksworth’s hopes of avoiding relegation were given a huge boost when Suposh Malhotra scored 57 in their six-wicket triumph over Pudsey Congs, who were bowled out for 120.

Halifax Direct are the new favourites to win B Division as Naz Khan (7-42) and Jimmy Zaidi (54 not out) inspired them to a seven-wicket victory at home to Shipley Providence B, who were all out for 113.

New Wortley are now in second after beating Hepworth & Idle in a low-scoring encounter.

Dave Matthews took six for 23 as New Wortley were dismissed for 88, but Mohammed Asghar responded in style to take six for 20 as the hosts were bowled out for 76.

New Farnley B (136) plunged Meanwood (70) deep into relegation trouble after winning by 66 runs, and Old Modernians had a welcome six-wicket success over Rodley after the home side were dismissed for 63.

Hepworth & Idle secured the C Division title at their first attempt to grab a league and cup double, with a three-wicket victory over New Farnley C’ (124), and will now be hoping their first XI can mirror their efforts to ensure their successful season guarantees promotion. Drighlington remain second after Tyson Illingworth hit 83 not out in their seven-wicket win over Pudsey Congs B (153-8).

Baildon C were bowled out for 65 by Mount B to lose by four wickets, and Steve Tomlinson scored 69 not out as Wibsey Park Chapel edged home by two wickets over Whitehall, who posted 112. Cookridge gained their second victory of the season as Ansar Ghazan scored 53 in their 93 for nine, which proved enough as Pudsey St Lawrence B were shot out for 73, Khalid Mahmood taking five for 13.

In the only other game, Asghar Ali bagged five for 27 as Crompark B beat Hyde Park by five wickets.
