Light is shining on Providence


Shipley Providence have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of A Division.

They skittled New Farnley for 69 and raced to a five-wicket victory after Leeds Sikh YMCA missed out at Mount due to an unfit ground.

Meanwhile, Rodley are clinging on to the top two after Gary Walton’s unbeaten 53 helped them overcome Pudsey Congs’ 148 for the loss of five wickets, James Lindley-Dawe crashing 87 for the losers.

Adel (160-8) had a much-needed winning draw at home to Farnley Hill, who narrowly failed in their run chase, closing on 157 for nine, Richard Bedford scoring 62.

Hawksworth (107) slumped to another defeat. Suposh Malhotra hit 50, but Rob Smalldon took five for 25 and Komal Singh hit an undefeated 53 as Farsley triumphed by three wickets.

Baildon lost after being bowled out for 82 chasing Crompark’s 163, for whom Asghar Ali hit 55.

The top four in B Division all won – Halifax Direct (132-7) by three wickets against Esholt to remain second.

Hepworth & Idle were gifted maximum points as Leeds Sikh YMCA B failed to raise a side.

Baildon B (142-9) had Gary Baines (65) and Tim Joy (5-22) to thank after disposing of New Farnley B (64), Mark Dodson taking five for 72 for the Leeds side.

New Wortley had a crushing win over Shipley Providence B, Irfan Sadiq’s 71 helping them to 204, which would have been higher without Nazir Qureshi’s seven for 67. Shipley were bowled out for 117.

Meanwood had a similar win over Rodley B, Mohammed Ali (62) and Adam Copeland (61) helping them to 208 before skipper Ian Long took five for 37 as the visitors were sent packing for 111.

Phil Haigh (5-22) kept Hepworth & Idle B at the summit of C Division as Crompark B fell for 109, chasing a target of 145. Drighlington continued their impressive run with an 199-run victory over Baildon C.

Tyson Illingworth (85) and Tony Redmond (54 no) were the chief destroyers as they racked up 254 for four before Ryan Woods took five for 23 as Baildon were shot out for 55.

Wibsey Park Chapel (71-3) had a welcome return to winning ways at the expense of bottom club Cookridge after Dru Patel took five for 20.

St Lawrence B won the Pudsey derby. Alastair Goodchild hit an undefeated 112 as Congs made 184 for seven but Saints skipper Jon Lodge (52no) led the victory charge as they eased home with four wickets in hand.
