East Bierley’s Sovereign Health Care Priestley Shield final win over Cleckheaton on Saturday secured a unique double.
The South View Road club second team’s third successive triumph means they are the only Bradford League club to have secured hat-tricks in both cup competitions – the first team winning the Priestley Cup from 1998 to 2000.
Steve Simpson hit 106 to see Bierley past the hosts’ total of 212 all out with seven wickets to spare, Tom Owens also making a fluent 57.
Cleck’s promising 17-year-old Marcus Walmsley was the star of their innings. He scored 101 and gained some consolation by winning the man of the match award.
