Calverley defied their lowly position in Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League to knock holders Pool out of the Waddilove Cup.

They will be the only remaining side outside the top flight when they take on Bilton in the quarter-finals.

With steady bowling from Brian Wilson (3-24) and Shane Franklin (3-35), Calverley dismissed Pool for 168.

Skipper Basil King (74) then led them to a comfortable eight-wicket win with eight overs to spare.

Another shock looked on the cards when Ben Rhydding reduced hosts Rawdon to 76 for five but Australian Steve Duckworth (86no) and 18-year-old Matthew McCallum (60no) stopped the rot.

A 240 for five target proved too much for the visitors, despite a spirited unbeaten half-century from Nick Smith, and Rawdon now entertain Kirkstall Education in what should be the tie of the next round.

Guiseley also made prolific use of their 40 overs, Dean Russ (94) and Alex Bell (44) leading the way as they reached 234 for five, but Steeton were not daunted and put up a terrific fight.

Andy Luxton (57) was well supported by David Robinson (30), Neil Spragg (27) and Jonathan Best (29) but the Division Two side came up 24 runs short of victory.

It means Guiseley can look forward to a home match against Green Lane, who overcame Woodhouse.

Otley, who were runners-up two years ago, had Adam Vale (4-35) to thank for keeping Colton's total to 128 for nine, allowing them to get home by three wickets.

That books Otley a home tie against Adel, who beat Hall Park by just one wicket despite the efforts of Taimur Shah. He followed up a knock of 43 with a three for 31 bowling stint.
