RAIN was the big winner in the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League, with all six games in the top flight being abandoned after thunderstorms swept across the area.

It means that there was no change at either end of the table after a frustrating afternoon in which matches started in warm sunshine before being washed out.

Runs were hard to come by at Wagon Lane, where Bradford & Bingley struggled to 123-5 in 42.5 overs against leaders Pudsey St Lawrence before play was finally halted, David Clow's unbeaten 60 being the highlight.

St Lawrence picked up five points and remain 26 ahead of Hanging Heaton, who collected a similar haul from their home game with New Farnley.

Hanging Heaton is often a venue that avoids the worst of the weather – but not this time.

New Farnley were 89-1 at the mid-point of their innings when the heavens opened.

When play resumed, former Hanging Heaton skipper Mark Lawson hit four sixes and four fours in a knock of 61 as his side looked to score quick runs and build on the efforts of opener Simon Lambert (48), and they had reached 150-5 from 36 overs when play was abandoned.

Bottom team Scholes' home match with Farsley was abandoned when they had reached 150-4 from 37.4 overs. Opener Kasir Maroof continued his recent good form with an unbeaten 66, while overseas player Rizwan Ahmed scored 33 before a storm left the ground looking more like a giant boating lake as large puddles formed on the outfield.

Opener James McNichol hit his second half-century in successive matches as Morley totalled 186 from their 50 overs against fellow strugglers Pudsey Congs.

McNichol made 56, while overseas player Kashif Naveed chipped in with 35, off-spinner Josh Wheatley impressing for Congs with 5-44.

Just 21 overs were possible in a rain-interrupted Congs innings but there was just enough time for each team to pick up a further bonus point each as Congs scored 125-2, skipper Gareth Phillips making an undefeated 38 for Congs.

Morley, who have not won in their last six matches, picked up eight points from the match and closed the gap on

third-from-bottom Bradford & Bingley to two points.

The Woodlands bowlers had Lightcliffe in trouble at 113-7 before play was abandoned.

Overseas player Sarfraz Ahmed, who is in his 16th and final season with the club, took 4-31, while left-arm spinner Chris Brice had miserly figures of 2-18 from his 15 overs.

Cleckheaton were struggling at 135-6 when their match with East Bierley came to a premature end.

Skipper John Wood, who hit two sixes and nine fours in his 62, was the only batsman to look at ease for a side that haven't won any of their last five league games.
