HANGING Heaton are the early pacesetters after recording a 22-run win over Woodlands in the first Premier Division match to be played on the relaid Albert Terrace square.

Leading the way for Hanging Heaton was their skipper Gary Fellows. The former Yorkshire player made an elegant 100 as his side made a formidable 250-7 in a match reduced to 40 overs per side after a delayed start.

Fellows hit a six and 14 fours and shared in a third-wicket stand of 111 with the big-hitting Joe Fraser who smashed six sixes in his 56.

David Stiff's rapid 32 not out ensured that Hanging Heaton pocketed maximum batting points against a Woodlands bowling attack which lacked the control which the absent Chris Brice normally brings to the side. Scott Richardson (3-68) and spinner Kez Ahmed (3-70) proved to be the most successful bowlers.

Woodlands lost skipper Tim Jackson to an early run out but recovered with opener Sam Frankland making 50, Logan Weston (42) and Alex Atkinson (36), before overseas player Sarfraz Ahmed peppered the boundary in an explosive innings of 60 which included six sixes and four fours.

Despite the Sarfraz onslaught, Hanging Heaton held their nerve. They kept the run-rate in check as Woodlands lost wickets and closed out the win with their opponents on 228-8.

It means that Hanging Heaton lead the table by five points from Cleckheaton, the 2013 and 2014 champions, who beat Morley by seven wickets to record their second win. New signing Chris Holliday hit an unbeaten 70 as his side chased down a modest Morley total of 155.

Last season's Division Two champions lost their way after a solid start, collapsing from 99-3 to 124-9 in the face of some good bowling from spinner Andrew Deegan (4-42) and swing bowler Sam Wilson (3-34). Richard Jubb (34) and Henry Rush (30) were the pick of the Morley batsmen.

Champions Pudsey St Lawrence also recorded their second win as they defeated Farsley by 33 runs in a match reduced to 20 overs a side after the unseasonal weather delayed the start.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Duce hit a brisk 50 off just 27 balls while Chris Marsden chipped in with 32 in a total of 158-4. Farsley were restricted to 125-7 in reply with leg spinner Tom Hudson taking 3-34.

Opener Chris Taylor hit his second half-century of the season as Lightcliffe defeated top flight new boys Scholes by five wickets. The former Yorkshire and Derbyshire batsman made an unbeaten 76 and was aided by Rob Burton (39no) as his side recorded their first win.

Scholes failed to take full advantage of the solid platform laid by openers Kasir Maroof (44) and Christian Jackson (34). Overseas player Rizwan Ahmed played well for his unbeaten 54 while many of his colleague struggled against the left-arm spin of Suleman Khan (5-29).

Bradford & Bingley had overseas player Noman Ali to thank as they recorded their first win, a seven-wicket success over East Bierley in a game in which just 20 overs per side were possible.

Ali took 3-37 with his left-arm spin as East Bierley, despite 37 from Fahid Rehman, were restricted to 111-7. Bradford & Bingley were helped to their target by a knock of 58 from just 31 balls by Ali, who hit four sixes and seven fours. Opener Jack Edgar chipped in with 33.

There was no play at all in the match between Pudsey Congs and New Farnley due to the wet outfield.
