PUDSEY Congs opener Callum Geldart played the innings of the day in the Premier Division of the All Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League.

He made a sparkling 149 as his side recorded a 135-run win at Bradford & Bingley on Saturday.

Geldart's 149 included three sixes and 24 fours as his side compiled an imposing 306-6. New signing Dylan Budge got off to a good start with an unbeaten 89 as he shared a third-wicket partnership of 118 with Geldart.

Bradford & Bingley never threatened to challenge the Congs score despite the efforts of Charlie Best (52) and Jack Edgar (41). Off spinner Josh Wheatley capped his debut for Congs by taking 5-41 as Bradford & Bingley were bowled out for 171.

Champions Pudsey St Lawrence launched their defence of the title with a 26-run win over New Farnley at Tofts Road.

Richie Lamb took 4-47 and Steve Watts (3-25) as St Lawrence bowled out their rivals for 147 as they successfully defended their modest total of 173.

Once again opener Mark Robertshaw was the cornerstone of the St Lawrence innings with 65, while new signing Simon Lambert, a winter recruit from York made 50 for New Farnley. The pick of the New Farnley bowlers were Muhammad Bilal (4-37) and spinner James Middlebrook (3-40).

Cleckheaton produced the performance of the day in the Premier Division as they chased down a challenging Lightcliffe total 264-5 to record a three-wicket win.

Skipper John Wood led from the front with 74 as he and Andy Gorrod (46) shared an opening stand of 112. Mohammad Zaman (50) and Ian Nicholson (35) maintained the tempo of the innings as Cleckheaton won with 3.2 overs to spare.

League sponsor Chris Taylor (50) and skipper Alex Stead (46) put of 94 for Lightcliffe's first wicket before the middle order faltered. The innings was revived when Rob Burton hit six sixes and three fours in a breezy unbeaten 68 as he shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 102 with Jonathan Wilson (36no).

Woodlands made it a winning start for new captain Tim Jackson as they defeated newly-promoted Scholes by 126 runs.

Jackson (60) and Sam Frankland (70) joined forces in an opening stand of 146 which set Woodlands on their way to a total of 236-3. New signing Alex Atkinson (45no) and Logan Weston (33) helped their side to maximum batting point

Scholes struggled in reply and were bowled out for 110 as spinners Chris Brice (4-2) and Kez Ahmed (4-52) found conditions to their liking.

Newly-promoted Morley started with a win as they overcame East Bierley by 51 runs. Opener James McNichol (54) and skipper Matt Baxter (52) helped their side to 159 against some good spin bowling from Luke Jarvis (5-32).

East Bierley, without a number of their first team regulars, were bowled out for 108. New boy Henry Rush (4-9) did the damage for Morley while Fahid Rehman marked his debut for East Bierley by making the top score of 54.

Hanging Heaton's new opening bowler Tom Chippendale, a winter recruit for Ossett, made a great start for his new club by taking 6-47 to bowl them to a 27-run win over Farsley.

Farsley’s debut-making batsman Ryan Cooper was their top scorer with 46 as they were dismissed for 208 in reply to Hanging Heaton’s 235-9. Skipper Gary Fellows (82) and James Keen (50) were the mainstays of the Hanging Heaton innings. The best of the Farsley bowlers were Chris Henry (3-64) and Mark Harrison (3-67).
