SALTAIRE captain Richard Spry is confident his side can beat the drop in the Bradford League Division One ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Undercliffe.

Spry’s team prop up the table and lie 23 points from safety with four matches of the season remaining.

Undercliffe are third bottom and were promoted along with Saltaire last season, so a close encounter is expected.

Spry said: “It’s a big game for both teams but we’re playing some good cricket at the moment.

“If we play like have done in recent weeks, then we will give ourselves a good chance of getting a positive result.

“We can definitely still stay up and I think we’re a completely different team to how we were at the start of the season.

“We’re competing hard in every game and if we play good cricket in the last four games then we will give ourselves a real chance of staying up.”

Spry believes the influence of overseas player Chauhan Iandev could prove crucial during the business end of the season.

Saltaire follow tomorrow’s home clash with Undercliffe with a trip to second-bottom Farsley seven days later.

Spry added: “We want to win all four games, but the next two are particularly important as Undercliffe and Farsley are teams in and around us in the table.

“We probably need to win both of those to give ourselves a chance but we’re playing some good cricket at the moment.

“But we’re a completely different team with Iandev Chauhan in the side. We are confident of getting the job done.”

East Bierley are just five points above the second relegation spot as they prepare to host Farsley.

They have beaten the top four sides Pudsey St Lawrence, Woodlands, Cleckheaton and Hanging Heaton but have only five wins all season.

East Bierley left-arm spinner bowler Luke Jarvis said: “It’s a must-win game for us this weekend.

“We’ve had a lot of players not available for various reasons, which has affected us, but we’ve got a stronger team on Saturday and are almost at full strength.

“We are looking to win all our remaining games because we need to if we are to stay up.”

At the top, 18 points cover the top four leaders Pudsey St Lawrence play Sovereign Health Care Priestley Cup finalists Lightcliffe while second-place Woodlands are home to the other finalists Bradford & Bingley.

Champions Cleckheaton, bidding for a third successive title, have the toughest game away to fifth-placed New Farnley, who may well have Yorkshire's Andrew Hodd and James Middlebrook in their side.

Hanging Heaton are at home to Pudsey Congs who will be playing in the Regional final of the NatWest Club T20 away to Chester-le-Street on Sunday.

If they win they will go through to the national finals at the Swalec Stadium Cardiff of September 2.
