CALLUM Geldart was at his destructive best as Pudsey Congs won the ECB Twenty20 North Area semi-final at Undercliffe.

He hit 80 off just 49 balls in the decider against Derbyshire Premier League champions Ticknall as the JCT600 Bradford League winners triumphed by 28 runs.

Opener Geldart hit eight fours and five sixes, scoring off 31 of the deliveries he faced to pull things round for Congs after the early dismissals of Adam Patel and skipper Gareth Phillips, who was out first ball as they slumped to 8-2.

Nick Lindley (31 off 35 balls), who added 109 with Geldart for the third wicket, and Mubtada Akhtar (21 off 16) helped Congs to 165-5. Shahid Khan, who put Congs on the back foot, returned 2-21 off his four overs and Richard Woodburn delivered a healthy 0-24 off four.

That countered James North's solitary over, which cost 22, before Lindley (2-16) and James Pearson (1-16) reduced Ticknall to 18-3.

The visitors were revived by former Derbyshire player Paul Borrington (63) and Rupert Scott-Jones (23), who added 44 for the third wicket, but once Borrington was sixth out at 120, the innings failed to kick on and they finished on 137-9.

Phillips made up for his golden duck by taking 3-26, while Kez Ahmed returned 1-27, also from four overs.

Congs had won their morning semi-final by 22 runs against South Yorkshire League champions Wickersley, with Joe Greaves (39no), Phillips (26) and Geldart (24) contributing most to Congs' 138-9.

Lindley (3-26), Phillips (3-10) and Ahmed (2-29) were again on form with the ball, Geldart chipping in with 2-17.

Wickersley defeated Bourne (Lincolnshire Premier League) in the other semi-final.

Congs will now go forward to the North final, where they will face Chester-le-Street at the Britannia Ground on Sunday, August 16.
