LIGHTCLIFFE have won through to their second Sovereign Healthcare Priestley Cup final in three years.

The 2013 winners, who are in a JCT600 Bradford League relegation scrap, were indebted to veteran bowler Rob Burton.

After Lightcliffe had made 192-9 at home to Pudsey Congs, Burton took 5-30 as the visitors were toppled for just 87.

The Wakefield Road club will meet Bradford & Bingley in the final at Wagon Lane on Sunday, August 30 after the latter side saw off New Farnley by a similarly large margin.

Overseas player Suleman Khan (3-31) gave Burton good support with his left-arm spin as Lightcliffe ended Twenty20 champions Congs' hopes of a second cup.

The Congs batting line-up, which had made 317-7 against Farsley in a league clash 24 hours earlier, had James Pearson (27no) to thank for reaching three figures.

Lightcliffe skipper Alex Stead had earlier continued his good form with 64 at the top of their order, wicketkeeper Mark Horne (28no) and Jonathan Wilson (27) also making useful contributions against paceman Pearson (3-47) and spinner Kez Ahmed (2-22).

Meanwhile, skipper Phil Slater and Jacob Roach were the heroes as 2010 winners Bradford & Bingley defeated New Farnley, who included Yorkshire duo Andrew Hodd and James Middlebrook, by 77 runs.

Slater, who had been dismissed by his opposite number Mark Lawson first ball of the match, bounced back by ripping the heart out of the New Farnley innings with 4-26 as the much-fancied home outfit slumped to 127 in reply to Bradford & Bingley's 204-9.

With paceman Jack Hartley sidelined due to a shoulder injury sustained playing for Leicestershire Seconds, Slater and Scott Etherington (3-43) took on the extra responsibility admirably as New Farnley's top order failed to build on starts.

Bingley had also hit trouble when they batted first and were struggling at 106-7 before Jacob Roach produced an unbeaten 57 and Chris Thompson 42 to push their total above 200.

Spinner Dave McCallum was once again the pick of the New Farnley bowlers with 3-31 as they failed to reach their first Priestley Cup final.
