A PLAYER in the JCT600 Bradford League has been suspended for six months after an incident with a spectator led to the abandonment of a second-team match.

Spen Victoria's Rowland Thompson has been banned from all forms of cricket from and including Saturday, April 18, 2015, and also has an eight-week suspended sentence hanging over him for the following two years.

The disciplinary panel of Brian Pearson (chairman), Alan Carter and Rodney Heyhoe met at East Bierley to consider events at the match between Spen Victoria and Hartshead Moor at Spen Lane on Saturday, September 14.

They found Thompson guilty of a Level 4(b) offence of the Yorkshire Cricket Board's disciplinary code, which covers physical assault of another player, umpire, official or spectator, and a Level 4(c) offence of an act of violence on the field of play.

Suspensions for both offences could have ranged from a minimum of 12 weeks to two years or, if severe enough, sine die.

The panel also decided to impose an additional suspension of eight weeks suspended for two years, applied under Level 2(f) of the YCB code, for using language or gesture that is obscene or of a seriously insulting nature to another player, umpire, team official or spectator.
