JCT600 Bradford League club Morley have had their third team admitted to the Dales Council League.

They were unanimously accepted at the grass-roots league’s annual meeting at Pudsey Congs.

Morley’s cricket chairman Simon Barraclough said: “We have been playing in the Mid-Yorkshire Sunday League for seven or eight years and have had nine or ten fixtures a year but we want more regular competition than that so that our players can play second-team cricket.

“We have a mix of senior and junior players but the emphasis is on juniors, and this will be a natural progression for them.

“We will play on the main pitch at Scatcherd Lane whenever possible but otherwise we will use Morley Academy across the road.

“We will have to play three or four matches on a Sunday and we have got sightscreens at the school.”

Morley have been admitted, as all new clubs are, on a year’s probation.

Wibsey Park Chapel were unanimously re-elected, and league chairman Steve Raistrick added: “We are hoping that Pudsey St Lawrence will be bringing their fourth team back in and will play at Queen’s Park.

“That would give us 28 teams and the executive committee will be looking at the constitution.”

League results and fixture secretary Ken Firth said: “We would like an A Division of 12 teams and a B Division of 16, who will play each other once before splitting into two groups of eight based on their league positions, which will give 22 games to each club as per the A Division.

“That will give teams two-thirds of their matches against teams from their group.”

While the executive committee favour reducing the number of divisions from three to two, some clubs prefer staying at three divisions as they feel some matches would be too one-sided if they only had two divisions.
