Bradford Bulls’ final fixture will not be easy

Jamie Langley column

It was good to get that winning feeling back against Crusaders and something that Mick (Potter) spoke about before the game. It makes so much difference to everyone the following week.

Being our last home game, it was also good to get the chance to meet some of the fans in the marquee afterwards.

We expect it to be a very tough final match at Wakefield as it will be John Kear’s last game in charge and we all know what a great motivator he is.

Glenn Morrison is bowing out too against his old club, so he’s sure to put in a special effort and it’s up to us to rise to the challenge and look to improve on last week’s win.

A lot of people think it’s all over for us once the final hooter goes but that’s not the case.

We’re all back in at training on Monday morning and will carry through, pretty much as normal, for another fortnight before we get a break.

There are a number of reasons for this and all the lads are on board with it.

We know we’ve under-achieved this season and obviously we don’t expect to be rewarded for that by getting a couple of extra weeks off while the play-off contenders keep going.

But probably the most important is that we need to keep a level of fitness going.

If you stop altogether it becomes so much harder when we come back for pre-season. So even when we do get a break, everyone takes away their own personal fitness plan.

We’ll be waving goodbye to a few of the lads too at the end of the season and that’s always sad. Rugby league teams are close-knit units and you do form some good friendships.

Shad (Royston) is going off to play in France – it’s a new challenge for him, he’s just become a new father and he thinks it’s right for his family.

Herbie (Marc Herbert) is going on to different things. I think he’s off to further his education, so we all wish them well and anyone else who might leave the club over the winter.
