Preparation is the key to success against Huddersfield Giants

Everybody should have done extra homework this week.

Sunday’s game will be one of our toughest at Odsal and the only way we’ll have a chance of beating Huddersfield is by preparing properly.

Huddersfield are a good side, they’re big and strong and not too dissimilar to the Catalan side we played recently.

They have a similar style of play and a big pack. In fact, they’re big right across the park and we can’t afford to have an off-day.

It’s essential we get our defence right and our contact has to be spot on.

You can’t afford to miss your assignments. Each player should have done their research on the opposition to see what hand they carry the ball in and who’s hitting under the ribs – all the things like that.

We need to be ready and know what to expect because they will punish us if we slip up at all.

Our last two results couldn’t have been any more frustrating, mainly because we could have won both of them and would be four points better off now.

It’s not as if they were runaway results and we were beaten comfortably by the better side.

We were in the games right until the last minutes, even without performing anywhere near our best.

We know we are capable of beating these sides but we haven’t got the job done and that’s what makes it such a bitter pill to swallow.

Even though critics have been writing us off since the defeat to Castleford, we can’t let any outside factors affect us.

Speaking from a personal point of view, you have to get yourself up for every game regardless of the situation.

Games against Huddersfield are always passionate and they don’t mind coming out in the press and saying stuff before the game either, so that always adds fuel to the fire.

There was a long period when they just couldn’t beat us but they have one up on us now and we want that to change.
