Players need to motivate themselves

It’s clear we’ve underachieved so far this season.

There have been a few things going on and we’ve had to deal with quite a few injuries but we know we should be performing better on a regular basis.

We’ve been great one week and the next we’ve not been up to the task.

Anyone can beat anyone in Super League, so you have to be playing well every week. It’s not possible to be at your best in every game but you have to be as close as possible.

You can’t afford to be up one week and down the next, and we’ve found that out to our cost this year. We’ve had some good results, like the win at Leeds, then we’ve slipped up too easily in other games.

We need to ensure we’re fully motivated for every game and, ultimately, it comes down to the individual.

It’s easy to get up for games like Leeds but every player needs to make sure they’re looking after themselves and getting themselves in the right frame of mind for every single game.

You have to inspire and motivate yourself and make sure you’re performing well no matter what the circumstances.

We’ve had players busted and running around with injuries, and that can affect you but you still have to do whatever it takes to get the two points each week.

Going to Castleford is always a good challenge - ‘going down the Lane’ as they call it.

I’ve got some fond memories of the place from when I was playing for Cas schoolboys. They gave us all a season pass and I remember going down there to cheer the team on.

I watched Lynchy play a few times, so that just shows you how old he is!

Cas showed up well against Wigan in midweek and were the better team for long spells of that game against the reigning champions.

They’re a solid outfit who don’t make many mistakes and have a bit of attacking flair too. It will be hard but we can still get the win.
